It's been years since I have worn my military service uniform. I look into the eyes of my combat sisters and there is still profound pride of "girl power." But the silent war of gender equality is still far from over. I honor my sisters today. I am proud to have served with such strong, independent women.
To all the ladies who have came out of the ghetto and beat oppression, I salute you.
To the ladies who--perhaps, without a choice--become single mothers and did everything in their power to play both roles of mother and father to their child, I salute you.
To all my ladies who have overcame struggles such as cancer, poverty, and abuse; I salute you.
